Marisa Roper, NYC
This is Marisa, one of the happiest people I have had the pleasure of meeting. We had a brilliant shoot together, but it didn’t go as originally planned. I visited NYC slightly by accident in June of 2023. It was the last week of my five week sabbatical from work and BA happened to have a sale on, so I decided to jump on a plane and see my family there. I always travel with a camera and Marisa was up for doing some fun street fashion in and around the city. But shortly after I landed the Canadian Wildfires turned the big apple into a red one and being outdoors in the poor air quality was a very bad idea. So each day we postponed the shoot until finally I decided to book a daylight studio, away from the smoke. And I am so glad I did, I love being in a studio and this place had such delicious light that both Marisa and I quickly enjoyed being party to. Marisa is more actress than model and would slip into character with each outfit change, and dare I say it lens change, hence there being so much life in these shots. Marisa brought a number of outfits and I pinched a few things from my aunt including a black jacket and two shirts all bought from Joseph in Chelsea, London during the 90’s. I am in love with 90’s photography as it is where my passion for the camera was founded and it was a delight watching Marisa make the outfits her own.
